Hoo boy. Video Pinball dedicated unit (Thanks Willie!) Atari 2600 (many) Atari 5200 (Thanks Willie!) Atari 7800 Atari 800 Intellivision (Thanks Willie!) Colecovision (Thanks Willie!) NES SMS SNES GBA DS Wii I think that's it? It's hard to remember since everything is still packed up. I have sold quite a few systems over the years, some of which I regret, and some of them have come back to me via Willie. I did have a complete CIB domestic VB collection. The only regret I have is that I didn't wait until now to sell it, HOLY CRAP. So Ferg, what is your pick between the Atari 8 bit and the 5200? I've always thought the 8 bit was the way to go, but I see a lot of people have them both?

Here's my list. - Atari 2600
- Atari 5200
- Atari 7800
- Atari XEGS
- Atari Lynx (x2)
- Atari Jaguar (x2)
- Colecovision
- Nintendo Entertainment System
- Super Nintendo Entertainment System
- Sega CDX
- Virtual Boy
- Dreamcast
- Nuon
- Xbox (the original)
- Wii
- Sony PSP Go
- Sony Playstation 3
If we're including plug & play systems, I also own the first three Atari Flashbacks. The Flashback 2 is the only one hooked up, and the Flashback 1 I'm hanging on to just to keep it out of a landfill, or worse, away from someone who might unfortunately think it faithfully reproduces Atari games.
Nice collection Shinto! I really want a Jag, Lynx, and XEGS (or any Atari 8 bit for that matter)... Maybe someday!

Stormsurge, I would recommend one, but it seems like the SNES has gotten very expensive to collect. I would say if you do get one, save a couple hundred more up and get a multicart for it. Doesn't mean you can't still build up a collection, but it does mean you get to play stuff sooner :-)
I also can't recommend the ASCIIPad enough as a controller for the SNES. Far more reliable than the Nintendo controllers, plus you get rapid and auto fire.
Strudders, I would have been amazed if I didn't see a Zed X on your list; you didn't disappoint! :-) Digging the Virtual Boy too; my cousin had one when it first came out and I got to play it a bit and really enjoyed it.

Thought it might be fun to see where everyone's interests lie when it comes to game consoles. Here's my list of systems:
Atari 7800 Colecovision NES Super Nintendo Sega Genesis Turbografx 16 PS1 N64 Sega Dreamcast PS2 Xbox Nintendo GameCube Nintendo Wii Xbox 360 Nintendo Wii U Xbox One
Retron 5
Handhelds: Game Boy Color Game Boy Advance Game Boy Advance SP Nintendo DS Nintendo DS Lite Nintendo 3DS Sony PSP
Flashback systems: Atari Flashback 2 Atari Flashback 4 Intellivision Flashback Colecovision Flashback Atari Flashback 5
I also have a Sears Telegames stunt cycle/pong box, but I need a power supply for it, so I don't know if it works.
Edit: Said I had a 2600, but I actually have a 7800! Although I do have a 2600 adapter for the Colecovision :-)

Ah ! I did forget a large chunk. I was heavily into Hardcore Punk for a while - the whole DC scene (Minor Threat etc). Dead Kennedys etc. Think the only gig I went too was Suicidal Tendencies. Crazy gig. Suicidal Tendencies, man I'm jealous! We had a concert scheduled to come to a major city near me, and a friend and I were going to buy tickets, but the show ended up being cancelled due to "lack of interest." Unbelievable! I share some of your music taste, but I'm less into the indie and ska. Early years - Beach Boys, Johnny Cash, 80's-90's country (still love me some Garth Brooks and George Strait!) Teens - mid 20's Rock, metal, alternative, grunge, hair bands, Nirvana, Soundgarden, STP, AC DC, Kiss, Aerosmith, Metallica, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Dio, Green Day, Alice In Chains, Warrant, Bon Jovi, Ratt, etc Late 20s till now - 80's pop has been my big thing (probably my favorite stuff is Duran Duran) but still slip in stuff from my teens and early years. Love the Guardians soundtrack too! Still play it all the time, it's great! Edit: Forgot to mention concerts... 7 rows up at Wembley for ACDC are you kidding me?!?! That's epic... I've seen Steve Miller Band, Aerosmith, Kiss with Aerosmith, and Tool. I think my favorite show was Kiss; they really stole the show from Aerosmith and did a good job mixing their 70's and 80's stuff.

Strudders, I can understand having to cut back on collecting; all the small purchases with international shipping can add up in a hurry!
I've been fairly lucky between some decent priced lots on eBay, and having a few local retro stores carrying Atari games for really low prices. One store I go to a lot sells most of their carts for a dollar, and uncommons for 2-5 dollars. Another store I go to sells them for 2 dollars each, but they have a smaller selection and the ones they usually carry are the more common games.
Now that my collection is larger though, I'm feeling that pain as well. It's hard to justify spending 10, 20, 30 dollars on one Atari game. One of the stores I frequent had a loose copy of Gremlins for 30 bucks. I really really wanted to nab it, but I had already reached my budget for collecting for the month.
I like collecting the manuals as well when I can find them, and my bundle I got on eBay came with quite a few of the manuals. Got lucky I guess... I'm really thankful for AtariAge having most of the manuals in some format though; it's been a great resource to help me learn how to play titles I have no experience with.

Hello,
My name is Bryce (aka Starbuck66), and I've loved this podcast from the moment I started listening to it! I was born in 1980, so technically I should be a bit young for the Atari 2600, but my dad brought home a Vader model when I was 2. He had the Pac Man and Combat pack in carts, Super Breakout, and Q*Bert for games. Until 1990 or so, it was the only video game console we had in the house. My cousins had Nintendo, and I always begged my parents for one, but we were on the poor side while I was growing up, so getting an NES just wasn't in the budget. So while they were playing SMB, I was honing my Q*Bert skills :-)
In the late 80's, I started receiving free Atari games and consoles from people when they found out I still had one and used it. There was also a video rental shop next door to my house, and one of the guys there had a ton of Atari stuff. I remember him giving me a ton of joysticks, including some Wico bat stick command and control ones, some Gemini sticks and paddle controllers, the kids controller with all the games, Star Raiders with manual and keypad, Indy 500 with driving controllers, and a ton of carts including many of the Activision games. This added with the other games I got from people put my collection at well over 100 games, plus 3-4 consoles and a slew of controllers.
Once we got an NES, we only had three games for it (SMB/Duck Hunt and Junior Jeopardy), and other than the occasional rental there was only so much of those I could play. So I would often still dig out the 2600 and play some Pitfall, Berserk, Ms Pac Man, Asteroids, Super Breakout, Battlezone, Keystone Kapers, Space Invaders, Dragonfire, (and the list could go on) just because the games were still so fun for me.
Sadly once I moved out of my parents house in 2000 I left my whole Atari collection in their shed, and the house was eventually sold without me retrieving it. I have no idea what ended up happening to everything; I think my mom just ended up selling everything for pennies on the dollar or throwing it out. Luckily I kept my NES, and I got a decent collection started in the early 2000's between buying a friend's collection on the cheap and getting carts at rock bottom prices at EB and at rental stores as they sold off their NES games.
Fast forward to 2012, and after seeing Wreck it Ralph with my daughter, I realized how much I missed my Atari and retro gaming in general. I bought a Flashback 4 used on eBay for about 20 bucks with free shipping. It was cool, but when I realized no Activision or Imagic games were on it, I knew I would need to get a real console. I got a nice 7800 bundle on eBay for about 50 bucks, and it came with quite a few games. Since I started collecting again, I'm up to 160 individual 2600 titles. I'm still far from getting them all, but I'm working on it :-) I'm mainly a loose collector because it's less expensive, takes up less room, and fits with my belief that games should be played, not just displayed on a shelf to look at.
I'm also into collecting for just about every console past the 2600 as well, so my passion for gaming runs pretty deep and across most of the console generations. They say you don't forget your first love though, and that's why the Atari is still the most fun for me to collect for. When I started looking for retro video game podcasts and found this one, I was geeked! I couldn't believe the detail and history Ferg was covering for these games, and it really made collecting and playing them more fun. Thanks again to Ferg for starting his podcast and allowing all of us to share our passion for Atari!
