I finally got my hands on an Atari 5200! I picked up a bunch of carts at a local shop for a 1.50 a piece, thinking I would either hang onto them until I stumbled on a 5200, or maybe trade them to someone for some 2600 or 7800 stuff. RickR on the Atari.io forums actually had an extra 5200 laying around that was missing the front bezel and the door for the storage compartment on the back of the console, and he offered it to me for free, I just had to pay shipping! I also traded some carts and cash to him for a couple of working controllers, and I suddenly had a nice little 5200 collection that I could call my own: The joysticks are what they are, but they aren't bad overall once you get used to them. Hoping to score an adapter for 2600 controllers at some point, or maybe build my own. Its nice this is a 2 port model as well; no bulky TV/Power adapter thing to worry about.

Adventure was actually a game I'm far more into now then when I was a kid. I actually remember having the instructions, but with all the arcade ports at my fingertips it wasn't a quick 5-10 minute play like I was used to. I would play it once in a while and kill the dragons, get lost in some of the mazes, then shrug my shoulders and put something else in. I really didn't get into action RPG's or JRPG's until the SNES with Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past and Final Fantasy II (and Kingdom of Kroz on PC if that counts). Now when I fire up the Atari Adventure is must play; I always play it at least once or twice.
Raiders of the Lost Ark and ET would fit the bill here too; had both of those but didn't have the manual for either, so I just aimlessly wandered around until I died and said "Meh" and moved on to something else. My wife actually picked up ET and figured it out right away and really enjoyed the game. I still haven't gotten all the way through Raiders, but I've played it a lot more than I did when I was a kid, and its much more enjoyable now.

My wife got me an Intellivision for Christmas! I also went out and picked up some loose carts for it today: I also got a copy of Turtles in Time from her (label is a bit dinged up but who cares, this is an awesome game!): And finally she got me this 7800 homebrew from AtariAge; its like Night Stalker but faster paced and with different levels: Its been a great Christmas :-)

Here are some games I got in a trade on the Atari.io forums: And here are some games I found at a retro gaming store that usually doesn't have much Atari: The bottom right cart is Outer Space; it's the Sears version of Star Ship I believe. Got them all for under 5 dollars. I'm only missing one of the Mythicon games now, Star Fox. I'm also with Ferg on Sorcerer; I kind of like it! The music is catchy to me :-)

Loved this episode Ferg! It's always great to get other's perspectives and history on things like the holidays.
Myself, I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness, so I didn't celebrate any holidays until I was 20 and left the religion. Even then, it took the birth of my daughter in 2007 to wash away any guilt I had in celebrating Christmas. My parents converted when I was 4, so I have some vague early Christmas memories, but nothing after that.
It really gave me perspective on how special the holidays really are, and really made me focus more on the family aspect, not the food or the gifts. While I enjoy both food and gifts, I'm just extremely thankful I'm able to celebrate with my wife's family, and I can make up for lost time with my mom's side of the family (my parents were the only converts in each of their families). We even did double thanksgiving one year; we went to my aunt's for lunch, and went to my in laws for dinner. I've never been so full in my life, and I don't think I would do that again, but gosh it was fun :-)
I think I shared this before on the podcast, but we usually do some video games Thanksgiving weekend in between football games (or in place of if the game if it's a blowout). This year we played my brother in laws Intellivision; games included B17 Bomber (with voice module of course), Night Stalker, Dungeons and Dragons: Cloudy Mountain, Pitfall, and Dracula. I also brought over my NES Everdrive and my Four Score with extra controllers, and we played some 4 player Gauntlet II, and a bunch of other NES and Famicom titles. I got my father in law hooked on the Famicom version of Dig Dug, we also played some Holy Diver, as well as Super Mario Brothers, Contra, Super Dodge Ball, Super Spike Volleyball, Millipede, Bubble Bobble, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, original Mario Bros, and others that I can't remember.
We also got my 5 year old nephew playing for the first time; I was amazed how in love he was with the Intellivision! Night Stalker was definitely his favorite game of the weekend. He also played plenty of Super Mario Brothers; he has Mario Maker on the Wii U, and he was really interested in playing the game that started it all.
Anyway just wanted to say I loved the episode, and share a little of my Thanksgiving with you all.

Nice pickup Strudders! I have a copy now, but I also had this one when I was a kid. It was probably a second tier Activision title for me; I would play it when I got sick of Keystone Kapers or Pitfall. Fun game!

my soldering iron is my best friend... happiness is a warm iron! i don't think i've ever played Name This Game, but i enjoy the Game & Watch series so i'll give it a go over the weekend... and talking of nintendo, postie's been... ...five quid's worth of questionably legal famicom delights! I was planning on picking up some of those multicarts for my NES, but then my wife surprised me with an Everdrive N8 for my birthday, so I never ended up trying any of them out. You'll have to let me know how good that one is.

I feel like such an idiot for not realizing this game was on my Flashback 4 already! I got a copy from No Swear Gamer in the mail today, fired it up, and my daughter and I had a blast! Just makes me sad that we could have been enjoying this game a lot sooner, but I guess it was an early title that flew under my radar. I even listened to the episode in anticipation of receiving my copy, and Ferg had given it a decent review, so I'm just baffled how I missed out on this game till now.
If you have two players, give this game a go, it's worth it. I don't see myself playing marathon sessions of this, but you can easily play best two out of three games and have some fun.

Nice haul there starbuck! Thanks! I wrote in about this in my Keystone Kapers feedback too, hope you don't mind :-) Ok here we go... Got a lot in over the past couple of weeks. *snip* nice swag! did you get chance to play em all yet? Not all of them... Most of them though. I really enjoy Name This Game, for some reason it reminds me of the Octopus Game and Watch. I'm waiting for keyboard controllers, bid on a set for 10 bucks shipped on eBay. I think I have all of the Atari released keyboard controller games now. Played a bunch of Defender II as well.

postie brought this for me yesterday... it may not seem game related at first, but my gaming would be lost without one, and my previous iron (same model) died on me the other day after over ten years service... 10 years ain't too bad, guessing it was a well used 10 years too! I still have my Weller soldering station I bought for high school electronics class, think it's almost 20 years old now, still works!
