Hello Ferg and Fergoverse,
It is the long summer of our discontent. Last year we were sipping frozen margaritas at the beach and enjoying the summer of tanks (pshhh). This year it is warm PBR amidst washed up cruise ship waste, with no Ferg to console us.
Perhaps to keep the candle lit, we could have some threads on specific games. I'll start: Pressure Cooker.
Let's see how this goes.

Another aspect pertains to the demise of video rental stores in general. This is the matter of the "genre favorites" section. If I had a taste for a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movie, I would be able to go to the Blockbuster and easily pick one up. Now unless the title I want happens to be on a streaming service to which I subscribe, I simply can't see that movie that I would otherwise have been able to easily see. And don't talk to me about Redbox, they don't have a "genre favorites" section.

I was so happy to see a new episode, and with my favorite guest Soul Blazer. Here are my thoughts on the episode.
First, the audio quality is excellent. It seems like you both are in the same room. I'd love to know how you achieved such great quality.
I rented 2600 games as a kid! There was this locally owned drug store where I grew up, in Broomall, PA, a Western suburb of Philly. It was called Mel's Drug Store, on West Chester Pike, near 320. I don't know how my family discovered that they rented 2600 games, but when we did, I loved it. I think it was $2.00 for 3 nights. I remember they put them in durable plastic VHS cases, and they did not quite fit well in there. They rattled around.

Thanks for sharing that excellent video. The excerpt from the Wisconsin newspaper, where the merchandise manager lamented he did not sell them for twice the price, is a great opportunity to point out why nowadays he would absolutely be selling it at the maximum price the market will bear. The reason: our new overlord AI. Specifically the discipline of "Revenue Management". en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenue_managementComing soon to all purchases you will ever make now and for the rest of your consumer life. (Anything else is money left on the table.) Enjoy! Ed

What a great thread! I love the over the top, on-message, even draconian sounding, "two facts" text in the blurb. As if mere exclusivity is enough to make something great. Boo.

Hey Fergolicious, I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. You take as much time as you need to until your ennui and existentialist angst dissipate into the ether. You do you, Panda Bear.
Some trivia about Malagai, did you know that Answer Software had originally planned an off-Broadway production based on Malagai, and even had Malagai tanktops and cocktail napkins produced? That's a true fact that I made up. Here is another true fact about Malagai. Avant gard minimalist composer Phillip Glass, fresh off his success with the score of Godfrey Reggio's film Qoyannisqatsi, had observed his son playing Malagai. He was so intrigued by the performance aspects of the game play that he composed a piece of music, "Requiem for four Atari 2600 (Malagai) and Kazoo". After its premiere at the 1984 Bronx Experimental Music Hoolie, critical response was swift and uniformly outraged. The piece was never performed again. Ed P.S. we miss you and hope you are well

She appears not to be on the service to which I subscribe, but she is on YouTube. youtu.be/nt4t2FVHE_4I like it, sort of a Japanese version of modern German Schlager, like Helene Fischer.

Well, I was referring to the infectious groove of the first track, "Cissy Strut". There is nothing cissy about that groove, though. I will check out the tunes you referenced!

I just discovered the meters and oh my goodness! Their eponymous first album has some amazing grooves, but they're all too short.
If you want some super tight sparse funky grooves please check it out.
Maybe we can make a special version of the first track on that album called Cissy Strudders.

There are some terrific musical skills being shown off in this episode. Was one of those trumpets overdubbed, Ed, or did you have someone playing with you? Either way, great reading of the Pitfall II: Lost Caverns soundtrack! You have an awesome singing voice, Ferg! You've never really let loose for us like that, except perhaps in the "Come Together" cover. It's nice that you noticed, thanks. It turns out that all of the 2600 music I've taken the time to transcribe is in the key of concert E, which is F# on trumpet. The way that particular melody lays out on the staff was in the low end. So I decided to take it up an octave. As I tried to play it, I realized this would be a good time to learn how to use the four track feature of my Zoom H4N, which I use for all my audio submissions. This thing is great, I highly recommend it. Once I opened up that box, I thought I'd use the remaining tracks for ukelele and "drums". It was fun, and I time-budgeted myself to less than an hour for the whole submission. I'm still making my way thru the episode. Looking forward to contributing again! Ed

Ah, cool. I'm going to the parks. We should coordinate to try to meet up. Awesome, how about the Irish pub at Disney Springs, in the Epcot resort area?. They have live music and it's mostly outside. It's called "Raglan Road". I have Friday and Sunday night available. If we require another iteration of coordination, let's take it to voice. Please leave your contact info on my work mail at +1 407 458 0017. I hope to see you soon! Ed

Nope! I'm sure I'll come up with something else for the next episode. LOL I'm going to listen to the episode tomorrow most likely as I drive to Orlando. It's nice having podcasts to listen to on that drive. Dude, I live in Orlando. Any chance we could meet up? We missed eachother at Free Play Florida, because I was not able to attend. I started listening to the episode on my drive time today. So far really smooth. I am starting to wonder if Ferg is getting tired of receiving random gifts. Perhaps storage is starting to be a problem? Ed
