No, not a new podcast episode but this is surely 2600 related! Happy National Pac-Man Day! Which is your favorite Pac-Man game to play?

It's hard to narrow it down to one. I love the Turbo Ms. Pac-Man, Hangly Man, Baby Pac-Man, Super Pac-Man, and the 2600 version of Jr. Pac-Man. That's one, right? š

Yay ! Happy Pac-Man Day too ! I wonder why that particular date ? When the 2600 cart was released ? Wonder what happened to all the costumes and if anyone has one in their collection ?

Of yeah - my fave is Ms Pac-Man. Just for nostalgic reasons. Iām pretty awful at any of the Pac-Man games

I think it was something I mentioned in the Pac-Man episode. I believe it was supposed to be the release date for the 2600 version.

Yep, the date was the release of the 2600 version, which Atari made a huge deal about. They had ads with the "countdown" to the day...

What a great thread! I love the over the top, on-message, even draconian sounding, "two facts" text in the blurb. As if mere exclusivity is enough to make something great. Boo.

Thanks for sharing that excellent video. The excerpt from the Wisconsin newspaper, where the merchandise manager lamented he did not sell them for twice the price, is a great opportunity to point out why nowadays he would absolutely be selling it at the maximum price the market will bear. The reason: our new overlord AI. Specifically the discipline of "Revenue Management". en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenue_managementComing soon to all purchases you will ever make now and for the rest of your consumer life. (Anything else is money left on the table.) Enjoy! Ed

Hmmm... honestly, I think my favorite is Nukey Shay's "Hack 'Em" hack (of Pesco) for the 2600. Plays super fast and awesome, a real joy to play.
Also, Pac-Mania is a blast!

Absolutely! I really love that version as well. I wonder how history would have been different if a version like that had been released at the time.
I have to say the homebrew version for the Fairchild Channel F is perhaps the unlikeliest version (i.e. it's amazing that it exists), and quite impressive. I've never played it, but it looks so cool.
Finally, a super obscure version that I loved playing years ago was a NUON version of the original Pac-Man for the 2600:
