Hey guys! I'm new to collecting for Atari and was looking for advice. Im interested in a 7800 and seen such an array of prices for consoles. Also eBay has shown systems lacking the AC adapter. Is that common? Library wise is it affordable to collect for? Last question is there a worthwhile "Harmony" cart equivalent for the system?
Thank you all very much! I hope this was appropriate to post on here. 😁

i'm no expert, but... 1 - if there's no AC adapter then they can't show it working... you could get a bargain but unless you see images of the console working then you have to assume it doesn't... bid accordingly... if the console does work then replacing the bespoke socket on the console, with a megadrive type barrel socket, is an absolute doddle and it means you can safely use a megadrive AC adapter... 2 - there's a few expensive titles, like all consoles, but most of the best are common and well priced (if you want a particularly expensive game then my advice is to just use a flash cart and not bother lining someone's pockets, see my next reply for details) 3 - there's the Mateos cartridge, i can't say enough good things about this cart, it's super cheap, works great and is pretty much drag and drop (once you get used to a few foibles with your operating system trying to get in the way)... it doesn't have an on-screen menu like the harmony, just a rotary dial to select one of sixteen banks, each of which can hold a game... first go listen to Sean's 7800 Homebrew Podcast episode #36, all about the Mateos cart, here... and then go order a Mateos cartridge from Juan Mateos here... also, remember you can always use a Harmony cart for all the 2600 games on the 7800 too... Thank you! Very excited to hear about flash cart and looking forward to hearing the 7800 Homebrew podcast! Going to keep my eye out for a good deal. I love experiencing these awesome games and systems! After getting the harmony cart and playing on real hardware nothing beats it!
