Episode is finally available for Fireball! I hadn't realized until last night that I did not release an episode in June at all. That sucks, but I really wasn't feeling it. Plus I was super tired when I finally got to recording the Fireball episode. Now that I've sold you on it, enjoy! 🤣 Thank you so much for listening. traffic.libsyn.com/2600gamebygamepodcast/Fireball_by_Starpath.mp3

Fantastic news, Ferg! Thank you! Now go have fun with your family. Tanks But No Tanks can wait.
By the way, I sent you something by email. I hope you got it. I know it is way early but figured I'd share it with you since it was done.

Another great episode on a game I never heard of. I never heard of the super charger growing up, but it makes since to try and extend the old VCS's life. I think why Fireball was done on the Super Charger and not on a cart is cost. I imagine the cost of tapes versus carts was hugely different and Starpath was setup to make the tapes probably cheaper and quicker than the carts. Just my nickel, because in Canada the penny is gone.

It was much cheaper to make games on tape than on carts, though you did have to shell out the money for the Supercharger itself.
Ferg, nice job on the episode, as always. Looks like the game gets mixed reviews. Some people like it, some don't. As for the hook, the juggler is playing on a stage. In years past, the hook was how people who performed poorly on stage were taken off the stage. It's been used a lot on cartoons.

Trek,
Thanks for the article. Very well written and informative. It would have been interesting on how things would have progressed if the crash did not happen. I can see the upgrade the supercharger made. Without the crash, who knows how many more tape games would have come out or how far they could have pushed it.

You're welcome and glad that you liked it. I submitted a longer article to Old School Gamer Magazine. I'm not sure in what issue it will appear. You're right, who knows what would have happened had there been no crash. Tapes were cheaper than carts so it is likely Starpath would have continued making games and maybe even more arcade ports.

The arcade game mentioned, featuring the clown who catches balloons on his head, is an in-house Midway game called Kick. That was its original name, anyway -- it was renamed Kick Man, presumably after Pac-Man grew insanely popular. Maybe the guy remembered Pin-Head as the title of a computer clone or something; there were plenty of clown-on-unicycle rip-offs on the Commodore 64 and Atari eight-bits.
(It was great to hear the tribute to D.J. Fontana, Ferg!)
