Watched this video of this impressive restoration of an Atari 2600, which has spurred mixed comments on the video calling it a fake or just saying that painting the console was not the way to go. What do you think? The console looked quite dirty when things started.
I have cleaned dozens of consoles and have seen some that bad. The worst I every had to clean was pop. It made everything a sticky mess. I followed most of those steps, except for the paint. I found I never had to actual paint anything and would be worried about it not adhering properly. There is a statisfaction of bring back a neglected console.
That would be the only reason to paint I can think of why too. Realistically it is no different then using retro brite to unyellow a Nintendo console just something I would not do with one of those consoles but each to their own. At least it won't make the list for the grumpy retro gamers worst looking custom consoles. That video had some really interesting choices.
