A neighbor had these. We never tried them out, but my goodness they were THICK.
I remember some Internet article many years later talking about the Nintendo GameCube WaveBird, saying that the WaveBird was the FIRST EVER first-party wireless video game controller. I was like, "Nuh-uh! Atari made wireless controllers for the 2600!" My smug correction was largely unappreciated, though, probably because I said that out loud and nobody heard me.

LOL Your smug correction was correct, though! Atari did it first! In fact, there are other things Atari did first that people seem to have forgotten!

I think that Cynex made these for Atari, they were originally called Game Mate 2 and marketed for the Vic 20 as well as the 2600. I would love to get my hands on that version, I have 2 sets of the Atari branded sticks.

The Atari branded ones came in two types of boxes, I believe. An old-style box and then one with the silver color.
Edit: Actually, one is the GameMate and the other is Atari branded. I just found these pics...
