It's interesting how our jobs can be so different but some of the issues faced can be the same. I too got pushed into management due to the fact that I was the most experienced. And I too got burnt as my personality was not a great fit. I struggled with the discipline of staff. I could do it up to a point, but it felt awkward and forced. I was under an incredible amount of stress. I've been back in a technical role now for over ten years and know that I'd never go back into management.
The other point that I can sympathise with is that of just working your 8 hours and then leaving things behind. I used to do a lot of extra hours (but I didn't get paid overtime) and in the end the only person to really benifit was 'the boss'. Work is important as it provides an income, but health and family always come first !

Yeah, I also took a turn at management and found it to not be a great fit for me. Like Strudders, I've settled back into a technical role (I'm in IT) and much, much happier with it.
