My Non-Gaming Podcast List

I listen to a small handful...

Probably my favorite non-gaming podcast is Fab 4 Free 4 All. Three guys from Long Island discussing The Beatles. Very informative and quite hilarious. All three hosts have some kind of connections that give them some legitimacy.

Something About The Beatles -- two Chicago-area guys -- Richard Buskin and Robert Rodriguez -- discuss the Beatles. Both are Beatles authors. Not as much of a fan of this as I am FFF4A...they both seem to just immediately dismiss Yoko Ono or Paul McCartney, and they have waaaaay too much music on the show. (Really, we KNOW the songs; why do they feel the need to play them in their entirety when just a few seconds will do??) Still good listening. (BTW, can you tell I'm a Beatles fan?)

I listen to NPR's Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! in podcast form. One of my favorite moments: when Bill Clinton was a guest...they asked him if he ever heard the show, and he said no. Peter Sagal (host) said something like, "Well, sir, we've said nothing but wonderful things about you!" (audience laughs) Clinton responded, "Yeah, I'll bet!" Citing his academic achievements (Rhodes scholar, etc.), they wanted to ask him three questions about something they were sure would be the one thing in the world he knew nothing about: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. And he got all of them right!

I also listen to How To Do Everything, which is kind of a podcast-only spin-off of Wait Wait...favorite moment: a listener asked them how to look cool. Their go-to guy for the subject: Henry Winkler. His suggestions: carry around a large book, like a Russian novel. Don't smoke. Lean back against a building with one leg bent with the foot placed against the wall, hands in jacket pockets (or pants pockets if you're not wearing a jacket).

I was really into season 1 of Serial and was left thinking there was just a lot of suspicious stuff behind Adnan Syed's conviction. Season 2 was a disappointment, though; just stuff about the Beau Bergdahl case....I mean, as far as I'm concerned, nothing further can really be said about it. All the show seemed to be was explaining various sides the story. Very ho-hum to me.

And because I was into season 1 of Serial, I also got hooked on Undisclosed, which went into much greater detail about the Adnan Syed case and makes it pretty freaking convincing that he was railroaded big time. Season 2 of Undisclosed just really isn't doing much for me. I really only listen because they have periodic updates on the Adnan Syed situation. But their current story -- about the murder conviction of Joey Watkins in Rome, Georgia -- just isn't as compelling. Nobody can seem to keep their stories straight, and even if Watkins is totally innocent, everything about him makes him out to be a complete DB; at least Adnan Syed seems like a very likable guy.

The rest of the stuff I listen to is pretty much gaming podcasts. Would love to do a Brian Wilson/Beach Boys podcast but, man, I just don't have time, and I need to find some cohosts.
